The sun was shining as the Mayor of Lichfield, Cllr Christopher Spruce welcomed the crowds and performed the traditional opening of the Shrovetide Fair and Pancake Races. Accompanied by the High Sheriff of Staffordshire, Mr Ian Dudson, the civic party witnessed the pancake races held in Bore Street.

The races attracted a large number of local traders and organisations but after several heats, Mary Fathers, competing on behalf of the Lichfield Golf and Country Club, was first over the line to secure the Women's trophy.

Alex Gooch, representing Wilkinson's, fought off stiff competition from the Fire and Rescue services to secure the Men's Race and 'Wendy' aka James Hutton, from the Fradley Arms scooped the Mascot's Trophy and the prize kindly donated by Salloway's Jewellers.

Lichfield City Council would like to thank all those who took part in particular the Salloway's the Jewellers and the Tudor of Lichfield for donating prizes.
