THE SWINFEN BROUN CHALLENGE TROPHY

At the invitation of the Lichfield Museum Bowling Club, Councillors and
supporters from Lichfield City Council played their annual Bowls Match
against the Museum Bowling Club in Beacon Park on Wednesday 9 July.
The Swinfen Broun Challenge Trophy is an annual event dating back to
1926 and to date the City Council have only won 7 times.
The Mayor of Lichfield, Councillor Mark Warfield led the City Council
team in an attempt to win the trophy for a second year running. However
they conceded an honourable defeat with a score of 79 against the Museum
Bowls Club score of 96.
Despite the inclement weather the teams had a most enjoyable evening
with a very fine buffet prepared by the ladies of the Bowling Club,
after which, the Mayor presented the trophy to the President of the
Bowls Club, Gerald Seymour.
