King Edward VI Sports Centre

King Edward VI Leisure Centre on Kings Hill provides a wide range of sporting activities. Facilities include a multi-purpose Sports Hall (32m x 18m) which can be used for football, netball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, short mat bowls, etc, an activity room, squash courts, sunbeds and a floodlit, full-size synthetic pitch. The Sports Centre organises excellent training and tuition courses covering most major sports.

Friary Grange Leisure Centre, Eastern Avenue

The Friary Grange Centre on Eastern Avenue provides for a wide range of sporting interests. Facilities available include a Swimming Pool, 25m x 12.5m with spectator area; Sports Hall 37m x 18m equipped for badminton, basketball, fencing, gymnastics, netball, cricket etc; Squash Courts with overhead viewing gallery; Fitness Room, Sauna Suite and Solarium. There is also an outdoor floodlit area which can be used as four tennis courts, one five-a-side, netball and general fitness training. The Sports Centre organises excellent training and tuition courses covering most major sports.

 

Rugby

Lichfield Rugby Football Club. With its modern club facilities off Darnford Lane, the Rugby Club has achieved some major successes on the national scene.

Tennis

Both the Lichfield Lawn Tennis Club (www.lichfieldtennis.co.uk) and the Lichfield Friary Club (www.lichfieldfriarytennis.co.uk) have floodlit courts which are in use all year round.

Cricket & Hockey

The Lichfield Cricket and Hockey Club has a new ground and premises off Eastern Avenue. Website: www.lichfieldhockey.co.uk

Football

Lichfield City Football Club (formerly Beacon Park F.C.) is one of only eleven Charter Development Standard Clubs in Staffordshire, and operates from the Enots Sports & Social Club on Eastern Avenue. The Club currently has around 250 registered players and runs teams from under 8's through to under 17's, all competing in the Lichfield and District League; along with an open age adult team, who play in the Burton league.

 

Parks & Pools

Lichfield is extremely fortunate to have a wealth of fine parks and pools through the very heart of the City.

Beacon Park

As well as the formal gardens in the oldest part of the park nearest Bird Street, Beacon Park now extends over 78 acres out to the Western Bypass and includes a Par 3 (18 hole) Pitch and Putt Course, 9 football pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens, crazy golf and a large children's play area.

Festival Gardens

The Festival Gardens between The Friary and Sandford Street were donated to the City by Sir Richard Ashmole Cooper in the late 1920's.

Pool Walk

Pool walkPool Walk forms a delightful secluded garden area adjacent to Minster Pool, with splendid views from across the water to the Cathedral beyond.

Stowe Fields

Stowe Fields has a small children's play area adjacent to Lombard Street car park. The area, in the shadow of the Cathedral, includes the 14 acre Stowe Pool where sailing takes place throughout the summer months.

Darnford Park

47 acres between Boley Park estate and the A38. The park has been carefully developed to provide a natural parkland area, fostering many wild flowers, butterflies and insect life.
