CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR GREETINGS FROM MARTIN RICHARD, THE MAYOR OF LICHFIELD'S GERMAN TWIN TOWN, LIMBURG AN DER LAHN

Martin Richard and Christmas Tree

On behalf of our council and the Limburg Twinning Association, I wish all the residents of Lichfield a very happy Christmas.

During this year, which is now drawing to a close, many activities have taken place between our two cities. Once again, there have been many visits, and contacts between groups and schools have been strengthened and new contacts made through twinning events. Young people have made friends, and "old" friends have met once again. The most famous son of your fine city, Dr Samuel Johnson, was remembered in Limburg with a literary dinner to mark his 300th birthday.

Our thanks to all those who are involved with our twinning, our friendship ? the staff at the City Council, the Twinning Association members and all those who have helped to make so many twinning events happen.

The forthcoming year will be a very special one for us. Limburg will be celebrating its founding 1100 years ago with many different events over the entire year. I am already looking forward to welcoming our friends from Lichfield for this occasion. We are also all looking forward to seeing our French friends once again in October 2010 in our twin town of Sainte Foy-l?s-Lyon.

With our best wishes for Christmas and wishing you a peaceful and successful New Year.

Martin Richard
Mayor of Limburg a.d. Lahn
