Sheriff to Lead 2024 Sheriff's Ride on 7 September

Published: 05 September 2024

Following reports published in the last week that the Sheriff of Lichfield, Cathy Wood, is unable to carry out the role of Sheriff during the annual Sheriff’s Ride due to health and mobility problems, the Leader of Lichfield City Council, Councillor Rosie Harvey-Coggins, today confirmed that the Sheriff would indeed be present and would be leading the Ride. In fact, the Sheriff will lead the Ride on the Big Red Bike, to highlight the work of the charity which enables those who love cycling - but who may not able to cycle independently - to experience cycling again.

Councillor Harvey Coggins stated: ‘Recent reports regarding the Sheriff’s health were exaggerated, and I am very pleased to say that Cathy will lead the Ride to the Pinfold and greet riders at various points around the circuit. She will also be present to receive the Riders in Cathedral Close, together with the Dean of Lichfield, the Rt Revd Jan Mcfarlane. It promises to be an excellent event and the Sheriff is looking forward to it immensely, and of course to being ably assisted by Grace Francis, the first Junior Sheriff. Cathy will also be in attendance to welcome guests to the Sheriff’s Banquet at the Guildhall on Sunday. Following the weekend’s events, Cathy will then continue to discharge her role as she has been doing since her election in May, supporting local causes and charities.’
