Mayor and Sheriff's Christmas Message

A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR AND SHERIFF OF LICHFIELD

At a time when our world – international, national and local – seems increasingly bewildering and fragmented, it has been good to be involved in the timeless and non-sectarian traditions of civic life in Lichfield. We have had the great privilege of meeting a wide variety of people from many different backgrounds and have had the pleasure of celebrating with individuals and groups the huge amount of work that is done, usually voluntarily, to shape and support the life of our community.

We’ve taken part in such events as the Sheriff’s Ride, the Laying Up of the Colours of the Mercian Regiment, the celebration of the Johnson Birthday weekend, the annual meeting of the Sheriffs of England and Wales; we’ve attended concerts, shows and other performances; and we’ve participated in the moving ceremonies of Remembrance Sunday and the Battle of Britain Day. And there have also been fun events to raise money for our chosen charities this year: Lichfield Arts and The Pathway Project.

As we celebrate the coming into our world of the Prince of Peace and the Bringer of Hope, and the point at which the darkness of winter gives way to the promise of approaching light in the New Year, our wish is that everyone – in the city of Lichfield as well as in our twin towns of Limburg-an-der-Lahn and Ste Foy-lès-Lyon – will experience some of that peace, light and hope in their own lives during 2026. Have a wonderful Christmas and a joyful New Year!

With very best wishes from Claire and Ian.
