Freedom Parade Photographs - DMS Whittington

Freedom Parade

The Freedom of the City was conferred upon DMS Whittington on 28 September.  Photographs of the event, including the special meeting of the City Council where the Freedom Scroll was presented to Wing Commander Mike Harris, Commanding Officer DMS Whittington, the Parade to the Cathedral and the salute on the Market Square, can be found in the City Council's Flickr album.

The event was a great success and we are proud to add DMS Whittington to the City's roll of Honorary Freemen.  The Freedom book, signed by Wing Commander Harris is 116 years old and contains the names of 22 former recipients of the Freedom of the City. The various entries in this historic book tell a story not only of individuals who have made a great contribution to our City, but also of the City's distinguished relationship with the various military branches that have been stationed at Whittington over many years.

DMS Whittington join noted military alumni including the Army training Regiment, Lichfield, the Staffordshire Yeomanry, and the Staffordshire Regiment in being awarded the Freedom to enter the City, with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating and bands playing.
