CITY WELCOME FOR GERMAN TWIN TOWN STUDENTS, JULY 2011

Town twinning students

The Mayor and Mayoress of Lichfield, Councillors Brian and Mrs Norma Bacon, have recently welcomed two 18 year old students from Lichfield's German twin town of Limburg an der Lahn.

Julia Vasilieva spent three weeks here on placement at St Michael's School, and the Mayor and Mayoress paid a visit to the school to meet the children, the staff and Julia, of course. She had had a wonderful time at the school, helping in particular the older children with all the end of term activities. Julia stayed with host families, and they and all at the school made her very welcome. She expressed her appreciation by saying that "she would never forget her stay in Lichfield, as it was such a happy time for her".

Jessica Gerwien is currently spending six weeks on placement with the library service, and the Mayor and Mayoress visited Lichfield Library last week to meet the staff and Jessica. Her interesting programme includes helping with summer holiday reading schemes, visiting smaller libraries, a day out with the "Book Bus" and visiting library HQ in Stafford. Like Julia, Jessica will be staying with host families whilst she is here in Lichfield. The Mayor and Mayoress chatted to Jessica about life in Limburg; they were also very impressed by what they saw in the Library. Having thanked the staff for their visit, the reply came: "Come again soon ? and borrow some books next time!" I'm sure that Jessica would be pleased to help them if they return whilst she is there.
