Breaking with, what has become the traditional downpour; it was a fine
evening for the annual Swinfen Broun Challenge Trophy bowls match played
on Wednesday, 8 July.
Handing over the cup
Councillor Terry Thomas, the Mayor of Lichfield captained the Lichfield
City Council team against the Museum Bowling Club. The City Council
Team, which included Mr Simon Price, the Sheriff of Lichfield bowled
well but after a hard fought battle was finally defeated 97 to 116. The
teams and supporters then returned to the pavilion for supper and the
presentation of the trophy. In his speech, Mr Roland Cope, Chairman of
the Bowls Club pointed out that next year's supper will be hosted in the
new club pavilion. The Mayor responded with thanks to the club for
hosting the event and good wishes for the forthcoming refurbishment.
