ELECTION OF MAYOR, DEPUTY MAYOR AND SHERIFF

Over 130 civic leaders, councillors and guests gathered at the Guildhall
on Monday evening 11 May 2009 to witness the investiture of the Mayor,
Deputy Mayor and Sheriff of the City for 2009/10.
The new Mayor, Councillor Terry Thomas, paid tribute to the work of the
outgoing Mayor, Councillor Mark Warfield and pledged to work hard to
represent the citizens of Lichfield and uphold the ancient traditions of
the City, during his year of office. Councillor Thomas and his family
have been involved in the life of the City for 37 years and he represents the Chadsmead Ward on the City Council. His has chosen to support one national and one local charity during his Mayoral Year and these are the British Heart Foundation, and the Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust.
The new Deputy Mayor is Councillor Christopher Spruce. In accepting his
office Councillor Spruce expressed appreciation for the support received
from fellow councillors and assured the Mayor of his wholehearted support during the year ahead.
Completing the civic team is the Sheriff of Lichfield, Mr Simon Price.
Every few years the City Council selects a Sheriff from outside of its
ranks to fill this important position and this year well-respected local
businessman, Mr Simon Price, Chief Executive of Arthur Price of England,
has been elected.
