Civic Team 2020/21
Published: 13 May 2020
The first virtual meeting of the City Council took place on 11 May, the date originally scheduled for the Annual Meeting of the Council. The first item of business was the appointment of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Sheriff. It was unanimously resolved that due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the impact that associated restrictions would have on the normal civic functions of the Council in the coming weeks and months, the existing Civic team of Mayor, Councillor Mrs Deborah Baker, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Robert Yardley and Sheriff, Dr Daryl Brown continue their current appointments until May 2021.
The Mayor confirmed that her Chaplain, Revd Nest Bateman and Police Cadet Benjamin Dodds had also confirmed their willingness to continue in their respective roles for a further 12 months. Dr Steve Baker remains as Mayor's Consort and Councillor Jayne Marks continues as Deputy Mayoress.
Due to the disruption of some charity events during the early phase of lockdown, the Mayor and Sheriff have also elected to continue to support their 2019/20 charities during 2020/21, those being Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust, Lichfield Voluntary Transport and St Giles Hospice.
At the same meeting, the tenures of Council Leader (Councillor Mark Warfield) and Deputy Leader (Councillor Mrs Gwyneth Boyle), were also extended to May 2021.
