At the invitation of the Lichfield Museum Bowling Club, Councillors and supporters from Lichfield City Council played their annual Bowls Match against the Museum Bowling Club in Beacon Park on Wednesday 9 July.

The Swinfen Broun Challenge Trophy is an annual event dating back to 1926 and to date the City Council have only won 7 times.

The Mayor of Lichfield, Councillor Mark Warfield led the City Council team in an attempt to win the trophy for a second year running. However they conceded an honourable defeat with a score of 79 against the Museum Bowls Club score of 96.

Despite the inclement weather the teams had a most enjoyable evening with a very fine buffet prepared by the ladies of the Bowling Club, after which, the Mayor presented the trophy to the President of the Bowls Club, Gerald Seymour.

Despite their regular success the Museum Bowling Club are keen to recruit new members and anyone interested should contact the Secretary, Mrs Barbara Currier telephone; 01543 411760
